(about)
I met British designer Jane Dillon (*1944) in 2017. Soon I’ve realized that in the design canon Jane has not been given the attention she deserved – just like so many other women. I wanted to change that and so I decided that my diploma project at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe should be a monograph on her body of work. The cooperation between Jane, a designer at the end of her career, and me, a young designer just about to start, resulted in a natural dialog about design processes, the relationships to clients and colleagues but also about the obstacles of working as a women designer in a world (still) dominated by men. Together we made a selection of 23 projects spanning four decades between the 1960ies and the 2000s. Those are now represented in several chapters. The first chapter assembles representative studio photography. The second chapter is a catalogue raisonné with project details. The third chapter is dedicated to the design process and shows how much effort and concept goes into a design piece. The last chapter completes the book with a bibliography and detailled cv. The book was shown in the exhibition „Here we are – Women in Design 1900 – today“ at the Vitra Design Museum from 23 Sep 2021 until 6 March 2022.
